Be Honest with Yourself

Be Honest with Yourself

It can be equally as damaging to lie to ourselves as it is to lie to others. While this certainly rings true in our personal lives, allow me to give an example that pertains to the business world. When you convince yourself that you’re doing better than you actually are, you don’t take the necessary steps to correct a downturn. When you think you’re doing worse than you are, you don’t take proper advantage of your success. Be cognizant of this and try to achieve an objective balance in your self-perception.

I understand that this can be difficult! Remember, you always have the option of turning to a close friend or confidant if you can’t be frank with yourself. Ask someone that you trust for feedback, and have them make a commitment to tell you what you need to hear. We’ve all been there—and it’s often these doses of reality that lead to the most meaningful growth!
